There are lots of conversations revolving around the subject of inclusivity. I am speaking specifically within the context of the church. It seems that while the world is becoming increasingly diverse, the church remains increasingly divisive. We hold sensitivity trainings and workshops, but the root of the problem remains.
It is my observation that we have allowed the surrounding culture to influence us way too long. We are called as Jesus followers to model a different type of culture. That is, we are called to live a new of life where, we accept people on the basis of their humanity and not any other criteria. This is a challenging call indeed, but if we are going to live according to “spirit and truth”, we must accept the challenge and become participants in God’s mission of transformation.
The church has been given “the word of reconciliation” but it’s first act must be to live out the reality of reconciliation within itself.
